So far 2011 is not proving to be our year of good travel karma. First we booked a trip back in November to Cairo and Sharm el Sheikh, Egypt, for this coming March....and will all the political unrest these days it's really not looking like a desirable place to explore at the moment. We can re-book to a different holiday, but it will cost us a sizable penalty...ouch.
Then TODAY we left for a week of skiing in the French Alps. We booked this trip over 10 months ago and at the time I logged the week as Saturday-Saturday in my mac book calendar. The paperwork arrived a week ago and honestly I was so consumed with the Egypt trip that I didn't notice the week was Sunday-Sunday. So, you can imagine what happened! We booked a car for 5:45 AM to Gatwick Airport this morning (not a fun airport to get to from our house in NW London...it's about a solid hour drive and all on minor roads). We arrive at the airport, wait in the 45 minutes line for the Thompson Charter flights leaving for Geneva and... then at the counter find out our flight is the next day!! To Michael's credit, he handled it very calmly and I think he even laughed as I stood at the counter with my mouth open when I realized the mistake. We stopped for coffee, juice and a few muffins for the kids at the cafe Nero and then headed back home. yes, we calculated the grand total for our round-trip to the airport and the muffins was £150. Well, here's hoping our luck changes tomorrow.
We did try and make the best of our extra day at home. Julianna organized an impromptu tea party for a few friends and dolls. She has really been into tea this year and everything on the table was her idea and/or creation. All I wanted her to do was complete her homework assignments that are due the day after we return, but she was a little preoccupied with the party planning. So, after some negotiations, she did complete a big assignment and I let her set up the party.
Here are a few photos I snapped with the iphone...
and one of Evan with his new football uniform for the Hampstead Football Club. He was moved up this winter from the clinic to the actual team and is so thrilled to be playing in the games (although the competition is stiff and they take the Soccer/football very seriously over here). Will try and get a video clip at the next game...
